Save the Date: Fr. Helmut Schüller on Speaking Tour in United States - July/August 2013

Fr. Helmut Schüller, the founder of the Austrian priests' Pfarrer Initiative which is calling for major reforms in the Catholic Church to alleviate the burden priests are feeling as a result of the growing shortage of clergy in that denomination.

The tour, which is being called The Catholic Tipping Point because priests and people worldwide are creating a critical mass transforming the Church from the bottom up, will take Fr. Schüller to many major American cities. It is being sponsored by Call To Action, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, CORPUS, DignityUSA, FutureChurch, New Ways Ministry, National Coalition of American Nuns, Quixote Center, Catholics Speak Out!, Voice of the Faithful, and Women's Ordination Conference.

Those planning to attend these events are being asked to wear red ribbons as a symbol of the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost which empowers all the faithful to take responsibility for the Church. Those ribbons will be given to Fr. Schüller at the end of each event and after the final event, they will be presented to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as a symbol of how many committed Catholics in this country are yearning for a reformed and renewed Church.

Because this movement emphasizes clergy and laity working together, organizers are also suggesting that participants "continue the conversation" by talking directly with their own parish priests. "Ask your priest if he feels overstretched or if there are pastoral roles he feels must be skipped because of the work load and volunteer to help around the parish. Let him know that you appreciate him, and that you know we need to work together to make our communities vibrant and move our church forward. Listen to what he has to share and let him know you love your church."
